Join the Mountaineering Club of North Wales.

A club for people who love the mountains.

Good mountains. Good company. Great adventures.

Looking for like-minded people to share your love of the outdoors? The Mountaineering Club of North Wales (MCNW) brings together people who enjoy walking, scrambling, climbing and exploring the mountains.

We’re a friendly club with a long history and a shared enthusiasm for getting out into the hills. From mountain days in Eryri (Snowdonia) to weekends away and adventures further afield, there’s plenty of opportunity to discover new places, meet people and make the most of the outdoors.

You don’t have to live in North Wales to join us. Our members come from across Wales and throughout the UK. Wherever you’re based, if you share our enthusiasm for the mountains, we’d love to hear from you.

Is MCNW for you?

Whether you’re an experienced mountaineer or relatively new to the outdoors, you’re welcome at MCNW.

Our members have a wide range of interests and experience. Some enjoy long days in the hills, others love scrambling and climbing, while many simply enjoy exploring the countryside with good company.

You don’t need years of experience to get involved. If you’re enthusiastic about the outdoors and keen to learn, the club is a great way to meet people, discover new places and develop your skills.

We’re an independent mountaineering club rather than a commercial guiding organisation. Activities are organised by members, so it’s important to choose activities suited to your experience, fitness and equipment.

More than just mountain days.

One of the best things about belonging to MCNW is the community.

Our regular meets bring members together in the mountains, while away meets provide opportunities to explore other parts of the UK and beyond. Our club hut at Tal y Braich is another important part of club life, providing a base for mountain adventures and a place to relax with fellow members.

Although we share a love of the outdoors, it’s the people you meet along the way that make being part of a club special.

1. Get In Touch

Tell us a little about yourself and the sort of activities you enjoy. Whether you’re a regular hill walker or just starting to explore the mountains, we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

2. Come along to a meet

You can try the club before committing to membership.

Come along to a suitable club meet, meet some of our members and experience what MCNW is all about. It’s the best way to see whether we’re the right fit for you.

We’ll help you identify a suitable activity for your experience and interests.

3. Become a member

If you’ve enjoyed meeting us and decide you’d like to join, we’ll explain how to become a member and get involved in future activities.
