The MCNW Mountain Hut.
A traditional hut with the mountains on the doorstep.
Nestled in the mountains of North Wales and located in the Ogwen Valley, the Mountaineering Club of North Wales hut at Tal y Braich offers a welcoming base for exploring one of the UK’s finest mountain areas.
Whether you’re planning a weekend of hill walking, a challenging scramble, a climbing trip or simply a few days away in the mountains, the hut puts you in a fantastic position to get out and explore.
With spectacular mountain scenery on the doorstep and a traditional hut atmosphere, it’s a place to share adventures, relax after a day in the hills and enjoy everything Eryri (Snowdonia) has to offer.
A great location. A practical mountain base. A place to enjoy the outdoors.
The hut is used by MCNW members throughout the year and is also available only to BMC members and affiliated clubs.
It’s not a luxury hotel — it’s a traditional mountain hut designed to provide the facilities you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay in the hills.
The hut sleeps up to 15 people and offers practical facilities for mountain days and weekends away.

Equipped kitchen – Facilities for preparing meals during your stay.

The hut is ideally placed for exploring the mountains of Eryri and the surrounding area.
Walking and hiking
Discover the mountain paths, quiet valleys and spectacular summits of North Wales. The surrounding area offers routes for a wide range of interests and abilities.
Scrambling and climbing
For those who enjoy getting off the beaten track, the nearby mountains offer classic ridges, rocky terrain and outstanding opportunities for scrambling and climbing.
Winter in the mountains
When conditions allow, the area offers a very different experience in winter. Snow and ice bring additional challenges, so appropriate skills, equipment and careful planning are essential.
A weekend away
You don’t have to plan an ambitious mountain expedition to enjoy a stay at the hut. It’s also a great place to spend a few days outdoors with friends, explore the local area and enjoy a change of scenery.
Whatever your plans, make sure your routes and activities are appropriate for the weather, conditions and experience of your group.
We’re always pleased to hear from people who are interested in joining the club.
Whether you’re an experienced mountaineer, enjoy long mountain walks, are developing your scrambling or climbing skills, or simply want to meet other people who enjoy being outdoors, we’d love to hear from you.
The best way to find out whether MCNW is for you is to come along to one of our regular meets, meet some of our members and see what we’re about.
